Care placement agencies: professionalization of care in expert systems
Souralová, Adéla ; Pavlík, Petr (advisor) ; Uhde, Zuzana (referee)
During last couple of decades, the paid child care has become one of the central issues of feminist research. The agencies mediating child care are relatively the new actor in child care arrangements in the Czech Republic. This MA thesis argues that they not only fill the gap in the market by offering a child care. Above all, far from providing the simple supply that reacts to the demand on the market, the agencies create the demand for specific care. Drawing upon qualitative research conducted with owners of these agencies, the text looks into the ways how the child care is constructed. The analysis consists of two parts. In the first one the agencies are understood as expert systems generating specific trust. In the second part, the issues of qualified, specialized, and professionalized care are discussed. The thesis aims at showing that child care in the agencies is deconstructed as a natural female activity and is reconstructed as a gendered activity requiring particular skills that are submitted to professional screening.
Sandwich generation: women between work and caregiving
Halmlová, Martina ; Dobiášová, Karolína (advisor) ; Kotrusová, Miriam (referee)
The paper deals with the phenomenon of sandwich generation. Specifically, it focuses on women, since they themselves often take on a commitment of care and therefore are more likely to become members of the sandwich generation, i.e. people who take care of still non- autonomous generation of offspring, and simultaneously of generation of aging parents. They are also trying to be autonomous entities and therefore have to combine family care with work responsibilities. The aim of this paper is to get to know the problems of these women, how they manage to cope with these commitments and what are their problems. This paper also deals with social policy in relation to the sandwich generation. The aim is to map the existing policy measures that affect these women and to find out what measures or services would be appropriate to establish in the future.

Teleworking Mother: Stategy for Reconciling Caregiving and Work
Šlapáková, Tereza ; Pavlík, Petr (advisor) ; Jiroutová Kynčlová, Tereza (referee)
This thesis aspires to analyse unique strategies of teleworking mothers with childcare responsibilities. Teleworking as a relatively new form of flexible working arrangement may provide them with distinctive opportunity to reconcile their role within family and labour market at the same time, at the location of their home. In the theoretical part of my diploma thesis I pay special attention to the Czech labour market and family policies from gender point of view and I also introduce the concept of teleworking in relation to gender specifics. Afterwards in the analytical part I analyse three key areas to understand the whole reconciliation strategy - motivation to choose teleworking instead of parental leave, ways of workday organization and different forms of securing childcare. Keywords: Teleworking, work from home, work-life balance, gender, labour market, childcare responsibilities

Vojta Grundmanová, Lenka ; Koldinská, Kristina (advisor) ; Tomšej, Jakub (referee)
Social security of parents when providing childcare Abstract The thesis "Social security of parents when providing childcare" deals with the topic of current legislation of social security which aims to help the parents to effectively reconcile their personal and working life during the period of early childcare (approximately up to three years of age). The aim of the thesis is to analyse and assess current social security laws and their application and practical impact on the parents providing childcare. The thesis focuses on the social benefits of parental allowance, maternity allowance, and also on maternity grant and paternity benefit, as well as on the provisions of the Labour Code concerning the protection of the parent as employee. In terms of reconciliation of private and working life, the thesis also discusses the situation of the childcare services. The aim of the thesis is not to introduce all of the aspects of the social benefits or theoretical analysis of legal provision but rather practical analysis of insufficient or dysfunctional provisions or concepts of the social security law that prevent our society from faster evolution towards modern and flexible parenthood. The results of the analysis raise contradictory feelings. An enormous amount of resources as well as attention is paid to the...
Fertility changes in the context of gender revolution with focus on the man's role in the family in the Czech Republic
Koudelka, Pavel
Title: Fertility changes in the context of gender revolution with focus on the man's role in the family in the Czech republic Author: Mgr. Pavel Koudelka Department: Department of Demography and Geodemography Statistics Supervisor: Prof. RNDr. Jitka Rychtaříková, CSc. Abstract: Profound changes are occurring in the relations between men and women in European families and societies, a transformation that is referred to as the 'gender revolution'. Considering the unprecedented drop in fertility, some important questions may be asked: in a more egalitarian society/family, could we expect a rise in the birth rate? Does men's participation in housework and child- care have an impact on the number of children born (in a family)? Czech society is slowly adapting to gender equality, but this is more apparent in the general mood and opinions than in the reality of households and families. We drew on two waves of a panel study Generations & Gender Survey (GGS) performed in the Czech republic and compared the information about the real involvement of men in households in which (a number of) children were born in between the waves. This is an advantage of GGS over similar studies: we have information about real- ity, real facts, and not only values and attitudes to gender equality or the number of children a...
